more on yesterday's horrendous showing by singapore. they deserve more CRITICISM.
where was the left back for the first goal? he totally disappeared! he's supposed to be a defender and what was he doing on the other half of the field? the defence was in total disarray for the first goal. they failed to clear the high ball, lost their composure and finally tactical discipline which cumulated in the malaysian guy taking advantage of the left back's unforgivable mistake and scoring. maybe they were distracted by the off-the-ball incident in which a malaysian player slapped one of their team mates but that was no ecuse as the referee had not blown his whistle. daniel bennett tried to cover the space but failed. culprit: the terrible zulkarnearn zainal. i think ros' would have done a better job than him. disgraceful.
the second goal was horrendous too. WHAT THE HELL WAS AIDE ISKANDAR thinking when he did not tackle the malaysian player?? to be fair, the malaysian player was dribbling in a tricky manner and he had just come on from the bench but he should have at least blocked his shooting angle if he did'nt want to rush into a tackle. and even a tackle would have meant a foul at worst and probably a free kick in a dangerous range but who knows?? JUST TACKLE IDIOT!!!!
i din'dt really pay attention for the 3rd goal as i had lost total interest in the match already but from the newspapers, it was'nt a pretty sight too. As for the 4th goal, *sigh*, a stray pass out from defence led to malaysia intercepting the ball and scoring when the defenders failed to recover and close down space, letting malaysia score from a tap in.
even though the defence has to largely shoulder the blame for the loss, the attack was no better. the midfield was terrible in passing and winning the ball. the showed no hunger, thinking someone would pop up with a goal and win the match. the strikers either received balls that were too fast for them to control or squandered chances. set pieces were awful. the whole team, to put it mildly, was a worthless, disgraceful bunch of people who had let their fanatical and supportive country down. on their home soil. to their arch rivals.
the coach was also at fault too. look, Jan Poulsen simply cannot hold two jobs at the same time. appoint someone as the national coach. Poulsen is no tactician and this was shown when he made a blunder by switching from 4-4-2 to 3-5-2 which confused the defence. admittedly he knew he HAD to bring the horrendous zulkanearn zainal off but he should'nt have tinkered with the formation. He was also limpid in his replies to the press. Come on FAS, give him a break and let him concentrate on youth development. appoint someone else as the coach.
come to think of it, if you recall some weeks ago i said i was incensed with commentators pronouncing "j" as "y". Look commentators, i know in spanish this will apply, or "j" will become silent if you prefer but JAN is DANISH. Does it apply too? it seems to be the case but i don't think so.
simply, i think the whole singapore would have thought the match was a waste of our time and money, caused by the horrendous singapore soccer team. they really need to buck up to win back the fans enthusiasm for local soccer. I, for one, have given up on local soccer and will be quite contented to feast myself on GOOD SOCCER from european countries like England and Spain.
will update ya later when i've cooled down.
