The Red Bridge
Sunday, October 25

He had stopped in the middle of the bridge. He had been waiting for the past 20 minutes now. Waiting for that girl with the shy smile to come.

For the past 3 months they had walked past each other hurriedly on the way to work. At 7.45am everyday their paths would cross on the red bridge. From casting shy initial glances, they had gradually progressed to shy, inquisitive smiles to each other.

Today, however, the girl hadn’t appeared. Maybe she was just late. Maybe she went on a holiday. Maybe she got some kind of rare illness that rendered her paralysed from neck down and unable to walk. No. Not her.

He would wait. He would wait for her all right. He didn’t mind that he was late for work. After all, he had decided today was the day he was going to finally ask her out.
